The story behind this piece

Scientists and scripture both begin with light. Fiat Lux draws the first instant as a single brilliant point, its rays of every length reaching out through expanding shells into a field of stars and young galaxies. A timeline along the foot reads lux, stellae, terra, vita, homo — light, stars, earth, life, mankind. The caption is Genesis 1:3: “Let there be light: and there was light.”
