The story behind this piece
The Mandelbrot set is every complex number c for which z ↦ z² + c, started at z = 0, stays bounded. This plate is a genuine render, not an illustration: a window 3 × 10⁻⁴ across its long side, centred on c = −0.74529 + 0.11307i in Seahorse Valley, the cleft between the main cardioid and the period-2 bulb — ten thousand times closer than the classic full view. Each of over fifteen million sample points was iterated up to 3,000 times and coloured by its smooth escape time, n + 1 − log₂ ln|z|, so gold gathers where points linger longest before escaping. The coordinates and the 10⁻⁵ scale bar in the corner are the true ones. Endless spirals, from one line of algebra.
